Description

Production VMs have no DHCP reservations — they float in the pool. This breaks SNMP source resolution, syslog hostname lookup, and any LAN-addressed service. Pin each VM to its current LAN IP (non-disruptive) and add forward+reverse DNS records in Technitium.

Scope

  • Cross-reference Proxmox VM MACs with ARP table on netinfra-01
  • Create DHCP reservations at current IPs (no IP changes)
  • Add A + PTR records in Technitium for the 192.168.x names
  • Verify DHCP failover sync propagates to netinfra-02
  • Exclude: sectestbed-* (lab), templates, retired VMs

Data already gathered

  • 60 VM MAC addresses from all 7 Proxmox hosts
  • ARP table from netinfra-01 with current MAC→IP mappings
  • Existing dhcpd-primary.conf with 25 physical host reservations
